SERGIO ARANDA

1st National Prize Baile Flamenco de Ronda (2008)

At only 11 years old, he began his education at the Malaga Conservatory for Professional Dance. He was trained by masters as Lucí Montes, Manolete, Antonio Canales, Eva La Yerbabuena and Farruquito. At 17 years old, he was selected to take part to the first Malaga Flamenco Biennial in 2005. The show “Málaga Flamenca” was performed at the Miguel de Cervantes Theatre of Malaga and also at other big theatres of Andalusia where Sergio is recognised as an outstanding dancer. His professional career is launched bringing him to perform throughout Spain and in international festivals in Chicago, Memphis, Miami, Colombia, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, Algeria and Shanghai among others where is is very successful.

In 2006 with the show “Biznaga”, Sergio represents the essence of the most characteristic flamenco palos of his town of Malaga in Barcelona, Zaragossa, London and New York among others.   He won the fisrt prize of the XVII National Dance Contest “Aniya la Gitana” of Ronda and therefore he also performed in the City Flamenco Festival. In 2008, he created the show “Málaga baila, Sevilla Canta” together with the Sevillian Isabel Fayos and the premiere took place at the Alameda Theatre of Malaga. In 2009, he realised the production of his first show “Pasito a Paso” where he represents his short but intense artistic career in the flamenco world.

He performed in an infinite number of festivals and renowned national as well as international theatres like the Nou Barris Festival of Barcelona, Cumbre Flamenca of Madrid, The Shanghai World Music Festival, the Suma Flamenca Festival in the Albéniz Theatre of Madrid, the Flamenco Festival in San Pedro del Pinatar of Murcia in 2006, the Dutch Tour with the show “Destemplao” by María Juncal in 2008, the Berlin International Flamenco Festival and also the tours throughout Canada and the USA with the Disney musical show “The Lion King” in 2011. He also made his mark on his art in emblematic tablaos in Madrid, Barcelona and Seville (Casa Patas, Tablao El Cordobés, Palacio del Flamenco de Barcelona, Café de Chinitas, Tablao Villarosa, Los Gallos and Las Carboneras). His last work “Enjundia Flamenca”, performed during the Riversaltes Flamenco Festival in France, was presented for the first time at the fourth edition of the Malaga Flamenco Art Biennial.

Actually, he is a choreographer and conducts his own flamenco company.
